day 55, brasov

The rest of yesterday night was spent in the pub playing darts, where this local chap who was also the pub’s do (I use this term lightly, he turned the music up and down) rinsed us all, he was insane. Got to bed bit later then wanted to but ah well. Woke up bright and early for the tour, after shower and breakfast got in the minibus with our tour guide Georgie, a local who was very cool and informative. First we went to rasnov castle, which was good, was told bits and pieces from the history and enjoyed it. Next we went to Bran’s castle, the castle often associated with being that of Dracula’s, however that is a myth, but the castle was great, it’s changed hands several times over the course of it’s lifetime and belonged to queen maria of romania, queen victoria’s granddaughter. After a couple of hours round that we headed off to Perles castle, which was built in 1894 and was the best off all three, privately owned it belonged to the royal family and was the most extravagant and elaborate castle I have ever seen, not so much a castle but a palace, and the decorations were insane, lots of skilfully carved wood and paints, instruments, trinkets, ceremony armoury, jewels, furniture, I couldn’t do anything but appreciate them all. Unfortunately you had to pay a lot more to take photos which was a shame, as I would have been snap happy but ah well. The day was really cool, the 4 aussies were all really cool, john, sam, chris and Katie, and the tour guide was great. Now just chilling out, going for dinner in half hour before catching the 9 o clock train to Budapest. Budapest should be cracking.
